Jeremiah 17:9-10 (New Living Translation)

9) "The human heart is most deceitful and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? 10) But I know! I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve."

Self examination is the key to understanding where you are in your relationship with the Lord. It requires an examination of your thoughts, motives and actions - according to His word and not according to what someone else says or does.

Many times, people compare themselves to others and because they may not be committing the same sin as another person, they believe that they are in a better position spiritually.

What we must remember is that we all have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3: 23) so it is pointless comparing ourselves with each other, as that would simply be comparing imperfection with imperfection.

Always let the word of God be the standard by which you live your life because it is the only sure way of getting into heaven.
